About Dave

A downtown Oshawa resident, not a career politician.

I’m Dave Thompson.

I live in downtown Oshawa. Not on the outskirts, not in a different ward — right in the heart of Ward 4. I walk down King Street, I see the storefronts, I talk to the business owners, and I hear what my neighbours are dealing with every single day.

In 2022, I ran for Ward 4 City Councillor because I believed this community deserved representation from someone who actually lives in the neighbourhood — not someone who sees it as a political stepping stone. I finished second with 1,169 votes, just 328 votes behind the incumbent Derek Giberson.

“That result told me something important: this community wants change. They want someone who shows up. I almost got there — and I’m coming back to finish the job.”

Why I’m Running Again

The same problems I ran on in 2022 haven’t gone away. Downtown safety is still a daily concern. Development keeps getting approved without proper consideration for the people who actually live here. And the city still doesn’t have a fire master plan — that’s basic emergency preparedness, and it’s missing.

I’m not running because I want to be a politician. I’m running because I live here, I care about this community, and I think Ward 4 deserves a councillor who will actually fight for the things that matter to the people who call this place home.

What Matters to Me

Practical solutions. Showing up. Listening to residents. Not playing political games. I believe in straightforward talk and real action. I’d rather fix one thing that matters than make ten promises that sound good.

Ward 4 is downtown Oshawa — the Urban Growth Centre, the King Street corridor, the Simcoe Street area, the residential streets that surround it all. It’s the heart of the city, and it needs a councillor who treats it that way.
